Saturday, September 10 will be a big weekend for boxing, as two of today’s best pound for pound fighters in the world step into the ring in different fights; Gennady “GGG” Golovkin the current WBC/WBA/IBF/IBO world middleweight champion will be putting three of his titles on the line WBC/IBF/IBO, (WBA is not sanctioning the fight as his opponent has never fought as a middleweight before), when he faces Kell Brook; Brook is the current IBF World Welterweight Champion and he is going up two weight classes to challenge Tripe G. On the other hand, #1 Pound-for-Pound Fighter in the World and WBC Flyweight World Champion Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez, a native from Nicaragua, will also be moving up in weight; Chocolatito is now going after the WBC Super Flyweight World Title by challenging the current holder of this belt, Mexican Carlos “Principe” Cuadras.

Golovkin vs. Brook

Gennady Golovkin a native of Kazakhstan, is undefeated with 35 wins, 32 of which have come by way of knockout, his impressive punching power, discipline and candid personality have made him win the hearts of boxing fans around the world; these same qualities have made it hard for him to get quality opponents to agree to fight him. UK’s own Kell Brook is also unbeaten; “Special K” has a record of 36 wins 25 of these by KO. Golovkin vs. Brook is a fight no one expected to see, particularly because the difference in weight divisions, yet and even though many consider this as a big mismatch, one has to understand that GGG is not a very big middleweight and Brook is a big welterweight, so the coming up in weight might not be a huge issue; the problem is that this is Brook’s first fight as a middleweight and he will be testing his power against a very good and strong fighter… Brook will have to use his ring smarts and be very technical to keep GGG off him. GGG vs. Brook will take place at the O2 Arena (Millenium Dome) in Greenwich, London.

Chocolatito vs. Principe

29 year old Chocolatito Gonzalez, is the best fighter from Nicaragua since legend Alexis Arguello, he holds a perfect record of 45 wins (38KO’s); he has earned the respect of the boxing community with his great boxing skills, power and humbleness, it is not common for boxers in the smaller weight divisions to get as much attention and certainly it’s difficult to have them be the main event on a big televised card. Gonzalez, a three-division champion is hoping to win a title in a fourth weight division by defeating current titlist Carlos Cuadras who has successfully defended his title six times, he has 35 wins (27KO’s) and 1 draw in his record; Cuadras has not yet faced a fighter of the level of Gonzalez, but he is talented enough to pose a threat to Gonzalez and make for an exciting fight. Gonzalez vs. Cuadras will take place at the Fabulous Forum in Los Angeles, CA

Two fan friendly fights where we can expect a lot of action, if you want to see the GGG-Brook and Gonzalez-Cuadras fights both will be televised by HBO, while for Latin America and Costa Rica these fights are shown in Combate Space channel; you can catch the GGG Brook fight live at around 2:30 P.M. Costa Rica time or a repetition of this fight followed by the Gonzalez Cuadras fight at around 8:00 P.M. Costa Rica time.
