According to a research by the University of Pittsburgh, older women (46 and up) have less sex as they get older but they enjoy the sexual encounters more; this information was provided at the North American Menopause Society’s annual conference in Orlando, Florida.
Women that volunteered for the study mentioned suffering from loss of libido in part related to hormonal changes as a product of menopause, but also due to stress, family life or difficult relationships; yet and despite having less sex they also mentioned they enjoyed it more; other stated that their libidos were much higher than their partners.
“One of the most enlightening findings of this study was the large number of women who had successfully adapted to any negative changes by modifying their expectations regarding sexual activity, putting more emphasis on the emotional and intimacy aspects of sex or adapting the sex acts themselves”, said Holly Thomas study’s lead author.
Confidence, better communication skills that allows them to talk about what they like and dislike, the ability to persuade their partner to take drugs for erectile dysfunction and the fact that there’s less or no risk of pregnancy, allows women to be inhibited in bed, they spend more time in foreplay and are more open to trying new sexual positions.
Renowned sexologist Alessandra Rampolla who visited Costa Rica last July, mentioned in her conference that women need to explore their bodies and get familiar with what they enjoy, what they don’t like and how they like it.
Costa Rican sexologist Mauro Fernandez has said that women reach their sexual maturity after 30, they know what they want in bed and they are more demanding with themselves and with the rest of the world “Women after 40 set the bar higher, they expect their lover to fulfill their expectations, they don’t want to tolerate selfish men, they want a man that gives them pleasure”.
