Construction company H.Solis was awarded the widening of the road that connects Lindora in Santa Ana and Belen in Heredia, known as “Radial Santa Ana-Belen”, specifically the works involve 2.2 kilometers (1.37 miles) from that goes from the Virilla River to Corrogres, one of the sectors with more traffic jams in the west side of San Jose.

The contract is for a total of $13,341,734.00. This project of the National Roads Council is managed by the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).

Rodolfo Méndez Mata, Minister of Public Works, confirmed that the works should begin the second semester of this year, and should take 15 months to be completed.

The sector involves the area that extends from the Virilla bridge, which was widened to 4 lanes over a year ago, to the Corrogres bridge in route 27, a sector that is used by close to 35,000 cars daily.

According to Minister Mata the project will bring many benefits to the public administration and the users. The water supply system located under the road will be replaced with a projected useful life of 25 years to avoid early leaks that would require breaking the road to repair them.

“The quality of the work and the strict compliance with the schedule will be a guarantee in this project, where at least 10% of the working personnel will be women, this is one of the requirements that the contracting company will have to comply with”, explained Alejandro Rossi, director of UNOPS in Costa Rica.
