Oakland, California, Apr 14 (EFE; betting context by IDSca.com).- The Golden State Warriors set an NBA record for most regular-season victories, eclipsing the mark set by the 1995-1996 Chicago Bulls with a 125-104 rout here of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Superstar point guard Stephen Curry, considered a virtual lock to win his second straight NBA Most Valuable Player Award, scored 46 points in Wednesday’s season finale at the Oracle Arena to lead the Warriors (73-9), who also got 16 points from shooting guard Klay Thompson and 11 points, nine rebounds and seven assists from do-it-all power forward Draymond Green.

During the game, Curry also reached an unprecedented milestone by making his 400th 3-point shot of the season early in the third quarter.

Curry went 15-of-24 from the field overall and 10-of-19 from long distance to finish the season with 402 made 3-point field goals, easily shattering his own previous mark – set in 2014-2015 – of 286.

President Barack Obama, a big Bulls fan, took to Twitter to congratulate the defending NBA champions.

“Congrats to the @Warriors, a great group of guys on and off the court. If somebody had to break the Bulls’ record, I’m glad it’s them.”

The Warriors needed to win their final four games to break the record, one of which was a 92-86 victory over the San Antonio Spurs at the AT&T Center that was the Texas team’s only home loss all season.

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver issued a statement congratulating the Bay Area franchise for its achievement.

“The team held itself to a high standard throughout the season, playing with purpose every night and captivating fans around the world with its free-flowing style, spectacular shooting and flair for the dramatic.”

The Warriors, however, have little time to celebrate because their quest to repeat as champions begins in earnest on Saturday when they host the Houston Rockets in Game 1 of the first round of the NBA Playoffs. EFE
