Walmart entered the Costa Rican coffee market by selling high quality coffee under their own brand, Great Value, which is produced in alliance with a PYME (small and medium size company) provider which benefits over 25 producers of the areas of Tarrazú, Naranjo and Tres Ríos .
Great Value coffee is being offered in different presentations, which includes gourmet dark and light roast, ground and whole bean.
“With the launch of this new product, the Company creates a valuable opportunity in the market for small and medium size producers in the country, generating employment for small entrepreneurs committed to food security, local production and the progress of their communities”, commented Mariela Pacheco, Sub-Manager of Corporate Affairs.
Great Value Costa Rican Coffee now joins their other brands, Sabemas and Suli which cater to a more traditional consumer segment.
“This coffee is the first product that is made in Costa Rica under our private brand Great Value. We have carefully picked everything from the bean to the design of the package which is inspired in each of the coffee regions where it is produced (…) We use elements such as flora and fauna representative of each of these regions as well as emblematic buildings and musical instruments”, explained Pacheco.
The coffee comes in different presentations: Tres Rios which offers citrus attributes, seeds flavor with caramel notes; Tarrazú, with chocolate notes, caramel and citric tones; Naranjo, with herbal and citric attributes and notes of honey and Pure Coffee, with neutral chocolate flavors.
