Costa Rican authorities with the assistance of the USA Coast Guard Service detained two vessels carrying over 2.4 Tons of cocaine in waters of the Pacific.

In under 4 hours, the same Coast Guard Service crew patrolling waters of the South Pacific alerted about the presence of a suspicious motorboat at around 7 p.m. on Friday, December 19, the same was intercepted 150 kilometers from Golfito, the vessel traveled without a flag or registration, three people were found aboard, two Costa Ricans and one Nicaraguan citizen.

Just three hours later, close to 10 p.m. authorities detained a second vessel only 18 nautical miles from where the first motorboat was intercepted. The crew of this second boat was formed by three Colombians.

After a thorough revision carried out by the Drug Control Police they confirmed both vessels were carrying 2,443 kilograms of cocaine and 177 kilograms of marijuana.

According to the Minister of Security, Michael Soto, the country has seized over 70 tons of drugs so far this year in 2020.

Just back on December 13 authorities also intercepted two vessels in the Caribbean coast, one carrying 234 packages of cocaine and the second one 2,557 each package weighing close to 1 kilogram.
