US Expat Catches a Shark From the Beach in Costa Rica

Using live bait and a surf rod US Expat Mike Hughes caught this 5-foot Nurse Shark the morning of Sunday January 27th on the beach in the Esterillos-Bejuco area south of Jaco. More than 100 bystanders witnessed the hour-long battle.

“The locals were all amazed that I as able to get it to shore. I do have the biggest surf rod in Costa Rica.I was physically beat and for a while I thought I had another big sting ray, but the last 20-yards took forever. Pura Vida” says Mike Hughes.
