The United States government expresses their solidarity with Costa Ricans affected by the passage of Tropical Storm Nate and donated US$150,000 to support helicopter flights to distribute humanitarian supplies and inspect affected areas and communities, said the U.S, Embassy in San José, Costa Rica in a press statement.

The US government’s aid comes at the request for assistance presented by the  Costa Rican National Commission for Risk Prevention and Emergency Care (CNE).

The assistance is granted through the Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance (OFDA), a branch of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), said the embassy.

 

The OFDA as well as other U.S. government agencies such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the U.S. Geological Survey, the Southern Command and NASA are working steadily with the CNE and other regional institutions in the prevention and mitigation of disaster situations that are affecting the country as a result of the recent heavy rains, concluded the embassy.
