Los Angeles, Oct 8 (EFE).– Spencer Stone, one of three U.S soldiers who in August subdued a suspected terrorist on a train traveling from Amsterdam to Paris, was seriously stabbed in Sacramento, California, the U.S. Air Force announced Thursday.

Stone, 25, is in stable condition.

He has been transferred to a local hospital and is currently receiving treatment for his wounds, Lt. Col. Christopher Karns said in an email to Air Force Times.

“The incident is currently under investigation by local law enforcement,” Karns told the newspaper.

A local television station reported the stabbing but it could not confirm the identity of the victim and said that the incident took place about 12:45 a.m. in downtown Sacramento.

According to KCRA-TV, the victim was stabbed multiple times in the torso.

Emergency services initially thought that the victim would not survive but, after he arrived at the hospital the medical team was able to stop his extensive bleeding.

Stone, Alex Skarlatos and Anthony Sadler, who were traveling as passengers on board the train, subdued – with the help of Briton Chris Norman – the attacker who was identified as Ayoub El Kahzzani.

The alleged terrorist boarded the train in Brussels with a Kalashnikov assault rifle, nine ammunition clips, an automatic pistol and a box cutter, and he wounded two people before being tackled and tied up by the passengers. He was later arrested.

Stone, who grabbed El Kahzzani while Skarlatos wrestled the weapon away from him, was cut several times with the box cutter in the neck and hand, and he had to undergo reconstructive surgery spending two days in a French hospital.

The U.S. trio were awarded the Legion of Honor, France’s highest decoration, by French President François Hollande.

In September, U.S. President Barack Obama received the three men at the White House and said that they represented the best of the United States. EFE
