University of Costa Rica increases budget for scholarships

The University of Costa Rica (UCR) increased the budget invested in scholarships for this 2017, making it one of the highest in all Latin America.

According to the data of the Scholarship and Social-Economic attention Office, the University of Costa Rica went from investing ¢13,512 million in 2014 (over $24 thousand dollars), to a total of ¢24,400 million in 2017 (around $44 thousand USD).

Over 21 thousand students of the main campus, received some type of scholarship during 2016; of these, a total of 14,800 received the maximum scholarship category, known as scholarship 5, which includes complimentary benefits like: transportation, food, book loan, geographic relocation, among others.

In that same year, around 77% of the more than 9 thousand students in regional campuses, also received social-economic aid.

All these actions have as a main objective the provision of the necessary tools to the student body so they remain in the higher educational system and successfully conclude their academic
