Uber Costa Rica announced that Wednesday, October 11, from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. drivers will deliver free-of-charge donations of items that will be distributed to those affected by Nate in various parts of Costa Rica.
Here’s how it works: Gather up your items to be donated. Check they are all in good condition, and that food items are non-perishable and within their expiration date. Then package them securely in a bag or box that, if you’d like, you can labeled with the contents.
Then, request an Uber ride the way you normally would, and select the code “UberAyuda.”
Uber will pick up your donation and deliver the much-needed goods to the nearest Red Cross, which is coordinating with emergency officials to facilitate deliveries and distribution to areas affected by Tropical Storm Nate.
“We will be collecting products, and ensure they will arrive quickly and safely into the hands of the Red Cross. Items needed include non-perishable food, bottled water, cleaning supplies, mattresses, sheets, blankets, clothes, pillows, toiletries, and pet food,” said Uber on their Facebook page.
Uber asks that when your Uber driver arrives, you please come out of your home or residence to hand your donation to the driver, as drivers can not leave their vehicles unattended to come to people’s doors.
So, if you’d like to make a donation, this might be the simplest way yet.
Remember that “UberAyuda” is available tomorrow, Wednesday, and only to collect donations, not to transport people.
