Finca Bellavista is a unique sustainable treetop community located in the Osa Peninsula. In the past, The Costa Rica Star has written about this unparalleled residential project, which has been getting a lot more attention lately.

A recent visitor to Finca Bellavista was Tico journalist Sebastian Castro, who is one of the youngest feature reporters working at CNN. Castro is a graduate from Emory University in Atlanta, and his story behind becoming a New Media journalist for CNN Espanol and CNN International is an example that risk-taking and persistence pay off.

Sebastian Castro visited Finca Bellavista earlier this month and filed a video report for his iReport Aventurero show, which you can watch here. He interviewed the visionary founders of Finca Bellavista, as well as the resident botanist and agricultural technician. The video clearly shows how much hard work has been put into the project, as well as the innovation involved and the beauty of the place.

Here’s a transcript of the some of the interviews on the CNN video segment:

CNN – Sebastian Castro: Mateo, as the founder of Finca Bellavista, what’s your mission?

Matt Hogan: In the end, the mission of Finca Bellavista is to become a pilot project that proves that it is possible to live in harmony with nature instead of changing it.

CNN – Sebastian Castro: And you are living proof that it is possible.

CNN – Sebastian Castro: Felo, how does it feel to see to see the finished project, since you were involved from the very beginning ?

Felo (agricultural technician): It feels like a family experience to be part of a project that is so beautiful, and I never expected that it would develop into this.

CNN – Sebastian Castro: Don Fernando, as the resident botanist, your role here is crucial. What’s your role here, precisely?

Gerardo Rivera (botanist): My role here at Finca Bellavista is identifying trees that meet the conditions required to build treehouses in, and also to keep a biodiversity inventory that accounts for all species in the area.
