Joshua Ten Brink, a Costa Rican tourist who was enjoying a few days of vacation in Tambor beach, Puntarenas, was able to capture an amazing video this Monday.
Brink explained he was taking a last stroll on the beach when he saw what he thought was a log in the ocean, he then noticed it was moving and realized it was a crocodile, he ran for his camera and was able to capture the reptile just as it had captured a stingray and was devouring it.
According to specialists, it is normal for crocodiles to go to the coast searching for food.
Although the most common predators of stingrays are sharks, whales, sea lions and seals, other animals like in this case the crocodile can have a feast in the rare occasions they are able to catch one. In some regions of Asia stingrays are hunted to eat their flaps.
This is not the first time crocodiles are spotted in the ocean in Costa Rica, just last year a tourist suffered an attack from one of this animals while surfing in Tamarindo. A surfing competition in Esterillos beach was also interrupted due to the presence of a crocodile.
In Costa Rica stingrays are commonly spotted in the Pacific coast. Actually, in the Santa Elena Bay in Guanacaste tourist can enjoy “the jump of the stingrays”, one of the most incredible natural spectacles, groups of 20 or even 30 stingrays can be seen doing acrobatics in the air.
