The National System of Areas of Conservation SINAC announced that tickets to visit the Irazú Volcano National Park and Tapantí National Park in Cartago are not available online through their page: https://serviciosenlinea.sinac.go.cr/.

Irazu and Tapantí, join other national parks that already use this modality: Chirripó, Poás Volcano, Manuel Antonio and San Lucas Island. SINAC is trying to implement this system for most of the National Parks to ensure easier access for visitors and eliminate unnecessary contact in view of the pandemic.

The purchase of tickets can only be done using a credit or debit card.

According to Rafael Gutiérrez, regional director of the Central Conservation Area, the Department of Technology and Information of SINAC has been working in the past months in improving digital services to offer better services to the public. “After a technical analysis and checking requests of improvement in the reservation system used by Poás National Park we went into a restructuring phase for the online point of sale for National Parks Irazú ad Tapantí-Cerro de la Muerte”.

National Parks are currently operating to a maximum 50% of their capacity and under strict sanitary protocols established by the Ministry of Health.

The Irazú Volcano is the highest volcano in Costa Rica, standing at 3,432 meters above sea level, has easy access, and is close to the city (31km or 20miles from Cartago), it has five different craters and impressive views. On clear days, both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans can be seen from its peak. With the use of a telescope, the Nicaragua Lake can be spotted.

The area known as Prusia has 16 kilometers (10 miles) of natural trails that can be explored.

The average temperature here is 5 to 9°C (41-48°F), several rivers originate in these mountains.
