If travel takes you to the balmy town of Grecia, best known for its miles of used car dealerships at the entrance to the town and located about 30 minutes west of San José, you can now indulge in your favorite Subway sandwich or soup.

This is the 13th locale of the popular U.S. health-conscious fast-food chain to open outside of the San José, Costa Rica Greater Metropolitan Area

Other Subway locations outside of the urban area include Ciudad Quesada, Jacó, Herradura, Quepos, Tamarindo, Liberia, Playas del Coco, Guápiles, Limón and Pérez Zeledón.

The company said they now employ 720 employees at their 72 eateries throughout the country.

Locating a new restaurant in Grecia, in the province of Alajuela, was based on two main considerations, according to Gia Pandolfo, Subway Costa Rica’s marketing manager.

The main driving force was the large number of requests received – mainly via social networks – from residents of Grecia for a Subway in their town. And the second, was finding the right location, which took several months of searching.

The Grecia Subway, with a total staff of 10, is located across from the southwest corner of the downtown park in Grecia. The outlet is open every day with the following hours:

  • Sunday – Thursday, 7 a.m. – 9 p.m.
  • Friday and Saturday, 7 a.m. – 10 p.m.

With 22 years in Costa Rica, this year alone the chain opened five new establishments: Ciudad Quesada, Jacó, Guápiles, Limón and this latest one in Grecia.

There are 59 Subway eateries in the Greater Metropolitan Area, added the company.
