The United States Embassy in Costa Rica posted the following message yesterday on their Facebook page as the embassy prepares for the new ambassador, Sharon Day, to assume her post:
“It is a real pleasure to introduce you to Ambassador Sharon Day

“Ambassador Day was sworn in as United States Ambassador to Costa Rica on September 25 at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.

“She has worked for more than 20 years for the U.S. Republican party at the local, state and national levels, and most recently in leadership positions as Co-Chair of the Republican National Committee and Secretary of the Republican National Committee. Earlier in her career, she started several businesses in the insurance and marketing industry, creating jobs for hundreds of individuals and families.

“Drawing on her experience in the private sector, Ambassador Day worked in the political arena to promote and strengthen small businesses and the free market system. She has also championed women’s rights as a Commissioner on the Florida Commission on the Status of Women.

“Ambassador Day was born and raised in Texas, and has called Fort Lauderdale, Florida her home for the past 25 years. She has two children and five grandchildren who are a source of much pride for her.”
Hundreds of Costa Ricans sent joyous messages of welcome on the embassy’s Facebook page.

One such message from Maria Del Socorro Calderon, read, “Welcome to this humble land, but one of great natural beauty, of people full of cordiality, friendship, humility, and hard work. Wishing you success, and may  good relations continue between our two countries.”
