A stretch of highway north of the turnoff for Puntarenas along Costa Rica’s Northern Inter-American Highway will be completely closed to traffic from 9 a.m. and until 12 noon Monday, October 9, said transportation officials.
The closure at the Seco River is necessary to make repairs to the bridge over this river along this highway linking Central America which suffered damages from Tropical Storm Nate late last week.
Machinery will be restoring material at the approach to the bridge that was washed out by heavy rains, said the Ministry of Transportation and Public Works.
Traffic since then in this area has been reduced to one lane along this critical multi-nation pass, said Alexis Montoya, road engineer with the National Roadways Council (Conavi). The repairs aim to restore the highway’s two lanes with this repair work.
Traffic police will be posted at the site to control traffic and for assistance with information on detours.
