With an official communique issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Costa Rica joined the international community in the collective disappointment of North Korea.

“Costa Rica vehemently decries the rocket launch by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and joins the clamor of the international community to once again take up, this time with greater urgency than before, high-level dialog that can instill a climate of trust in the region.

For Costa Rica the unfortunate action of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea amounts to taunting that alters the security and stability of the Asian region, and it is a clear affront against resolutions issued by the United Nations Security Council and the responsible initiatives of disarmament.”

The rocket launch, which failed and thankfully avoided landing in South Korea as it landed in the ocean, has prompted the United States to stop a previous deal in which American government-sponsored organizations would deliver food to Pyongyang for further distribution throughout North Korea.

According to a report by MSNBC, this is the fourth failed missile launch in a row by North Korea. Reports by state-run media in Pyongyang indicated that the rocket’s payload consisted of a communications satellite.

The Unha-3 rocket is believed to have employed a combination of ballistic missile technologies based on the soviet Scud missiles.

The G-8 ministers of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States have called upon the United Nations to take action on the matter.
