The Australian delegation was very critical of the condition of the Olympic Village and upon arriving in Brazil on the weekend decided to transfer the athletes to hotels.
Chiller said at a press conference that on Sunday 200 problems were identified in the building where Australia occupies 15 floors, although she said that on Monday substantial progress had been made in fixing them and the majority had been resolved.
She added that the Australian delegation continues to feel that the Olympic Village in Rio is the best such facility it’s been in.
Nevertheless, she said that the problems were noticed when people tried to use the showers and toilets and water began to leak out of the walls and ceilings of the rooms.
Rio Mayor Eduardo Paes, who was harshly criticized for having said on Sunday that kangaroos would be placed in the Village so that the Australian delegation would feel more at home, admitted on Monday that the building in question has a number of plumbing and electrical problems.
The delegations of Italy, Holland and Argentina also complained about similar problems at the Olympic Village. EFE
