Guatemala City, Jun 13 (EFE).- Hundreds of Guatemalans protested in the streets Saturday to demand once again the resignation of President Otto Perez Molina, who is under investigation by a congressional commission after being accused of corruption before the Supreme Court of Justice, or CSJ.

Meanwhile, dozens of the faithful gathered downtown in the capital, praying for God to put an end to corruption in their country.

Congress established the commission Friday after the CSJ admitted the complaint entered by opposition lawmaker Amilcar Pop against Perez Molina, for his suspected implication in two corruption scandals: one with the tax collection agency and the other involving Social Security.

The congressional investigating commission is presided by lawmaker Baudilio Hichos, who belongs to the largest opposition group in Congress, the Lider party.

The other legislators are Hugo Garcia Gudiel and Armando Chun, both of Lider, plus Hugo Moran of the CREO group, and Mario Linares of the ruling Patriot Party, which brought Perez Molina to power in 2012.

By means of social networks, the organizers asked Guatemalan citizens to massively take part in the peaceful march in order to fight corruption and demand transparency. EFE
