The number of people infected with Covid-19 went from 13 on Tuesday to 22 this Wednesday, confirmed the Ministry of Health during a press conference. The patients range from 10 to 73 years of age and include 14 women (one of them pregnant) and 8 men, 19 Costa Rican and 3 foreigners.
“The Covid-19 is a pandemic and it is highly probable that it becomes a seasonal virus as it occurred with AH1N1. With the actions we are implementing we are trying to slow down the propagation and specially protect the most vulnerable populations”, commented Daniel Salas, Minister of Health.
Vulnerable groups include diabetics, patient with cardiopathies, patients with high blood pressure, elderly people or those with pulmonary conditions, cancer patients or those that have a compromised immune system.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), patients under 18 years of age have a low incidence of the illness, only 2.4% of the patients infected around the world are under the age of 18. Pregnant women have exactly the same risk as any other patient.
The health authorities have discarded 118 cases.
The rise in the number of patients forced the closure of several schools.
All except two of the patients remain quarantined in their own homes.
