A federal judge on Friday issued a temporary restraining order blocking enforcement of President Donald Trump’s executive order preventing people from seven mainly Muslim countries from entering the United States.

U.S. District Court Senior Judge James L. Robart granted the injunction at the request of Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson, whose office said that the order applies nationwide.

“The Constitution prevailed today. No one is above the law – not even the President,” Ferguson said.

Washington was one of a number of states to file legal challenges since Trump signed the executive order last Friday.

The president decreed a temporary pause in admission of refugees, a 90-day prohibition on entry by residents of Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Iran, Somalia, Libya, and Yemen, and an indefinite suspension of admission of Syrian refugees.

The executive order sparked protests at airport across the United States and several judges have intervened to protect travelers in individual cases. EFE
