The U.S. Mission in San Jose is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Cashier.

POSITION: Cashier, FSN-8; FP-6*

OPENING DATE: May 9, 2016

CLOSING DATE: May 26, 2016

WORK HOURS: Fulltime 40 hours/week

SALARY: *Not-Ordinarily Resident (NOR): FP-6 US$39,558 annual (Starting salary) * Ordinarily Resident (OR): FSN-8 ¢751,119.00 monthly (Starting salary) *Final grade/step for NORs will be determined by Washington.

BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

As the Class B Cashier, trained, certified, designated by the Charleston Financial Service Center and the United States Disbursing Office. The incumbent is responsible for receipt, disbursement, accountability, examination, safekeeping and replenishment of cash transactions for the Embassy, including 25 agencies including ICASS. The amount of operating cash is $25,000.00.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Applicants must address each required qualification listed below with specific information supporting each item. Failure to do so may result in a determination that the applicant is not qualified.

EDUCATION: Two years of college or technical study in Business Administration, Accounting / Auditing is required. Practical cashiering experience may substitute for university-level accounting, finance or business education on one year for one year ratio.

EXPERIENCE: Three years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, book-keeping or cashiering operations. At least 2 years of experience in direct handling of cash items, maintaining records of cash transactions, control and application of guidelines governing the negotiability, validity of cash items and documents required to cashier operations. (If under 2 years of experience, provide an explanation to confirm ability to properly handle cash.)

LANGUAGE: Level III English ability (Good Working Knowledge) speaking, reading, and writing is required. Level IV Spanish ability (Advanced) speaking, reading, and writing is required. This will be tested.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The incumbent must have excellent customer service skills and must be proficient in the use of computers and software packages such as Excel, Power Point, Access and Word. Good logic and reasoning skills are a must, as in the ability to perform multiple functions concurrently.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: During the initial year which will serve as the probationary period, the employee will obtain knowledge of 4FAM, 4FAH, Cashier Guidelines, and corresponding Treasury Department Laws and rules pertaining to cash operations. To be removed from Probationary status, the employee must be able to display thorough knowledge of their ability to stay abreast of numerous associated agencies’ rules and procedures for processing cash transactions; and local laws affecting transactions, banking, exchange rates, etc.
