U.S. Sports Desk, Apr 20 (EFE; odds by IDSca.com).- The San Antonio Spurs and Atlanta Hawks stymied the Memphis Grizzlies and Boston Celtics, respectively, with outstanding defense to grab 2-0 leads in their best-of-seven, first-round playoff series.

The Spurs held the injury-riddled Grizzlies to 32.6 percent shooting and also got 56 points from their reserves in a 94-68 victory Tuesday night at the AT&T Center in San Antonio.

Reserve point guard Patty Mills, who sank four of his six 3-point attempts, led the way for the Spurs with 16 points.

Shooting guard Tony Allen scored 12 points to lead the Grizzlies, who are being forced to make do without injured stars Marc Gasol and Mike Conley,

Atlanta was just as relentless on defense, holding the Celtics to 31.8 percent shooting and allowing the fewest points (7) in the first quarter of an NBA playoff game since the league started using a shot clock in 1954.

The Hawks shot just 39 percent as a team but got 17 points apiece from center Al Horford and shooting guard Kyle Korver in their 89-72 win Tuesday night at Philips Arena in Atlanta, while Boston was led by point guard Isaiah Thomas, who scored 16 points but made only four of his 15 shot attempts.

The Spurs-Grizzlies series now moves to Memphis for Games 3 and 4, while the Celtics will host the next two games against the Hawks at the TD Garden in Boston. EFE
