The annual Credomatic Music Festival is a great opportunity to beat the rainy season blues in Costa Rica.

Concerts by a wide range of world class performers are offered at some of the country’s best hotels throughout the month of August.

Many venues offer packages that combine a hotel stay with concert entrance and other amenities.

If you haven’t taken advantage of green -or low – season rates to discover a new part of the country you’ve been meaning to visit, the list of sponsoring hotels is quite varied.

Concerts will be held at hotels spanning boutique and romantic styles to more rustic and family-oriented lodges.

Venues include Sarapiqui in the country’s Atlantic rainforest, Monteverde in the Tilarán mountain cloud forest, and several Central Pacific beach resorts, as well as a selection of hotels in Guanacaste, and a smattering in and around San José including Heredia and Santa Ana.

Sites where performances will be held – in no particular order – are: the National Theater, Aurola Holiday Inn, Alta Hotel, City Place Studio Cinemas, Hotel Chalet Tirol, Villa Caletas Boutique Hotel, Punta Leona Resort, Gaia Hotel and Reserve, Cristal Ballena Hotel Resort, Hacienda AltaGracia, Nammbú Beachfront Bungalows, El Establo Mountain Hotel, Montaña de Fuego Resort, Sarapiquis Rainforst Lodge, Sueño Azul Hotel, Earth University, Le Cameleon Boutique Hotel, Reserva Conchal Beach Resort, El Mangroove Hotel, Borinquen Mountain Resort, and Dreams Las Mareas.

The Spanish-based TaHaDi will share their unique fusion of Eastern and Western music, featuring aboriginal instruments such as didgeridoos, and Indian tablas.

The Costa Rican ensemble Sequialtera will perform medieval Iberoamerican music; and other coal and instrumental crops and soloists will share their talent during this unique traveling festival.

Rounding out the private venues are four free evening concerts: one at the Catholic Church in San Ramón (August 11), two at Cartago’s Los Angeles Basilica (August 12 and 19), one at the downtown San José Iglesia de la Soledad (August 25).
