Alaska Airlines announced this Tuesday the increase in the frequency of flights from three a week to daily in the route Los Angeles-San Jose, during the high season; while United Airlines confirmed the increase in frequency of the Chicago-San Jose flights.

When it comes to Alaska Airlines the itinerary will operate from November 15 through the 26, 2018 and from December 16, 2018 to January 6, 2019, to both the Daniel Oduber Airport in Liberia, Guanacaste and to the Juan Santamaria Airport in Alajuela.

United Airlines will have daily flights from Chicago to San Jose in January and February 2019; while it will fly from Houston to Liberia twice a week on Saturdays and Sundays starting January 2019.

“These are the result of the efforts and negotiations carried out by the Costa Rican Tourism Board to increase the frequency of flights from the United States“, explains the press release.

“The increase in the frequency of flights from Alaska Airlines represent 2,067 more seats, that along with the 12,771 seats estimated with the increase of flights by United Airlines to Houston and Chicago, will generate an additional 14,838 seats from the United States“.

The Minister of Tourism Maria Amalia Revelo has stated that part of the strategy of the Tourism Board involves focusing in the promotion and marketing of Costa Rica as a destination in key cities of the United States that impact in the decisions of airlines to fly to the country, some of these cities are Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Chicago, New York, Boston, Fort Lauderdale, Washington D.C. and Dallas.

The United States contributed last year with a total 1.2 million visitors to Costa Rica, which represents 40% of the international arrivals for that year.
