Maria José Calderón is the taekwondista of only 14 years that managed to put the name of Costa Rica in high, when winning the Open of Chicago.

The Costa Rican athlete traveled to Orlando to face her first US Open Taekwondo, without fear, her aspirations were put on a gold medal, and was so after four fights she climbed to the top of the podium and filled a country with joy.

Almost two years ago she entered the National Team where she attended five international events, the first one (his debut) was in Mexico where she won a silver medal; Subsequently participated again in Mexico, Chicago and Portland.

During the World Junior Taekwondo Championship 2016 held in Canada, the tica rose to the podium and hung in her chest a silver medal in the category of -45 kilograms.
