The province of Guanacaste, has been officially part of the territory of Costa Rica for 192 years, part of what Costa Rica is comes from Guanacaste, a land of contrasts, that not only has some of the most beautiful beaches of the country and incredible national parks, it has also contributed with a number of traditions and it has enriched the Costa Rican culture with its folklore, “marimba” music, “bombas”, delicious Indigenous traditional food, songs and dances; it is also a land of five star resorts, gourmet restaurants, golf courses and marinas.

Its warm weather has attracted many Europeans and Americans that want to escape the cold winters of their countries, and why not? The Liberia airport opened the doors to many new investment opportunities; a subsidiary of Ad Astra Rocket, leading spaceflight technology company dedicated to the development of advanced plasma rocket propulsion; software service company Avantica, are just two of the companies that had the vision of establishing their business in this convenient location. Universities and Tech schools opened their new campus’ here providing an excellent opportunity for the local young students and ensuring in this way that companies that decide to move to Liberia will have access to local qualified personnel; such is the case of the EARTH university which has also announced the creation of a Science and Technology Industrial Park in the area, but also the University of Costa Rica, Universidad Latina and Invenio University.

Guanacaste is a lot more than beautiful beaches, and Liberia and other cities in Guanacaste such as Tilarán, where Continum Datacenter is building their new center for financial services, are slowly taking steps towards attracting investment.

The main problem Guanacaste has faced is the lack of water, and the government is working on a plan to provide the province of three new water wells to solve the shortages of water that should be ready by 2017. They are also pushing 133 different projects that include fixing streets, building new schools, finishing the freight terminal of the airport, and revamping the border crossing checkpoint.
