New York, Sept. 29 — At least three people were killed and about 200 others injured in a train accident this morning in Hoboken, New Jersey, media reports said.
Exact death and injury tolls are not yet available.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, or PATH, which operates the commuter train network in the New York City metropolitan area, has halted train service in Hoboken.
“Rail service remains suspended in and out of Hoboken due to a train accident at Hoboken station,” New Jersey Transit said in a post on Twitter.
The train apparently did not stop as it entered the station and hit the structure, toppling at least one of the columns supporting the roof and causing its partial collapse.
The accident occurred around 8:30 a.m., the peak of rush hour.
The cause of the crash has not been determined.
Hoboken, located across the Hudson River from New York City, is home to many people who commute to work in the Big Apple.
