Canadian native Mikyle Pike at 12 years old, dominated the entire 2020 Costa Rican Karting season competing in the VLR 100 JR category in his first complete year of karting. According to ACEK (Association de Corredores de Kartismo) the VLR category is brand new in Costa Rica for the 2020 race season and has shown promising potential as a stepping stone into Latin American and international karting.

ACEK quoted (Translation) “The division that was released this 2020, The VLR 100, left a lot of emotions and strong peaks, In the VLR 100 Junior Mikyle Pike was the absolute winner by achieving a first position on all dates winning the championship with 154.5 points”

Mikyle is a part of Advance Karting, a very well known team in Costa Rica lead by Donald and Danny Formal. Danny Formal is a 5x USA National karting champion, 5x Florida Winter Tour Champion, 4x Supernats USA champion, S1 World Champion, 2X CTCC Champion and current professional driver of the 99 Green Ansa Motorsports Lamborghini Super Trofeo in the IMSA racing series.

We were able to speak with Mikyle on his clean sweep victories in all races this year and this is what he had to say:

I want to start by thanking everyone involved in my success during my debut year. Donald my race director and head mechanic always made sure my kart was 100% race ready and always supported my driver feedback. I learned so much from Donald about just how important chassis, carb and axel set up is and how to be “one” with the kart. A great driver should always be able to relay track feedback. I am still learning everyday but very excited to continue my growth.  Everyone on the Advanced Karting team, especially the drivers and mechanics like Dennis Ramirez have been so nice to me and are always around to help with whatever I have needed.

Felipe Vargas my driver coach, without Felipe I would have never been able to achieve the advanced skillset so quickly that was needed to compete against drivers with much more experience then me. Between SIM training days and on track practices Felipe patiently taught me about telemetry and how to optimize my racing lines and breaking points. Felipe is an amazing driver and he also won the 2020 Costa Rican National Championship in the Shifter category. I am excited about our future together!

Lastly I want to thank my family, without them none of this would be possible. (P.S I am faster then you now dad)

The best part of driving is learning, I love the speed and I love the chase, its like being in your own world when on track. I am also really interested in precision driving and Rally/X.

When we asked Mikyle what his 2021 plans were he explained that USA and Europe were in his 2021 racing schedule as he continues to grow and learns to perfect his craft as a driver. “I want to be one of the best in the world one day, so I will keep pushing to be the best version of me I can be.”

Mikyle was also very excited to tell us that because of his Championship victory he has received his first major sponsor with Extreme Simracing CCA. ( Facebook and Instagram). Extreme Simracing is a leading manufacturer of simulators for virtual motorsports sponsoring some of the top drivers in the world. They will be providing Mikyle with their top of the line P1 3.0 cockpit which will allow him to train off track at the highest level and Mikyle is looking forward to being a great brand ambassador for the company.

Mikyle, without a doubt is one of the up and coming stars of the kart racing world and we are hoping that one day he will remember us when he is famous!
