Costa Rica is the perfect place to escape from the cold winter of North America and Europe this time of the year. The high season has arrived in Costa Rica and will continue for the next four months, for as long as the perfect sunny days continue.
The Juan Santamaria Airport expects close to 2.5 million travelers during this high season, 13 airlines increase their frequencies during these months to both the Juan Santamaria Airport and the Liberia Airport in Guanacaste, among them, Air Canada, Air France, Alaska Airlines, Delta, JetBlue, British Airways, Southwest, United Airlines and American Airlines.
AERIS, company that manages the Juan Santamaria Airport, works on the logistics to attend the additional demand. Extended schedules and maximization of resources are part of the adjustments necessary.
The Juan Santamaria Airport now has a total of 81 counters and a new domestic terminal with 10 counters; in addition, there are 20 self-check-in kiosks which are used by close to 15% of the passengers, number that continues to grow.
The coordination with the General Direction of Migration is key, since during peak times, the passenger traffic can reach 1400 inbound travelers and 1300 outbound passengers. The number of migration officers and counters available has increased in preparation for the high season.
“We are very positive with the preparation we have had with the different public institutions and AERIS to have one of the biggest high seasons in Costa Rica. This as the result of the Strategy of Attraction of Airlines carried out by the Costa Rican Tourism Board (ICT) in coordination with the airports and private sector”, commented Hermes Navarro, chief of Investment Attraction of ICT.
The Juan Santamaria Airport expects to close this 2018 with a traffic of 5 million people.
