A Fox News presidential poll asking the question ‘Biden or Trump in 2020?’ shows that former Vice President Joe Biden leads President Donald Trump in a nationwide head-to-head match up. Really Fox News? This poll has been all over mainstream media and the subject of much discussion because it was on Fox News and not CNN, but CNN is using it right along with everyone else.
According to Fox News and Real Clear Politics the poll in question was conducted June 9-12 using a random sample of 1,001 registered voters that responded by landline telephone (218) and cellphone (783).
“Telephone numbers were randomly selected for inclusion in the survey using a probability proportionate to the size method, which means phone numbers for each state are proportional to the numbers of voters in each state,” says Fox News. “Results based on the full sample have a margin of error of plus or minus 3-percentage points.” This poll was conducted by Beacon Research and Shaw & Company under the direction of Fox News.
It is expected that on Nov. 3, 2020 an unprecedented number of registered voters — more than 150-million — will turn out to decide the future of the United States of America. Voter apathy has long been a disease among American citizens. Many elections – federal, state and local — are decided by 20-percent or less of registered voters that show up at the voting booth.
So Fox News has come out with this poll showing Biden over Trump by 10-points, Sanders over Trump by 9-points, Warren over Trump by 3-points and Harris over Trump by 1-point and Buttigieg over Trump by 1-point.
The Democrats are dancin’ in the streets over this poll while — it has been reported — that a few of Republican pollsters were fired over this poll. But the whole poll is flawed yet everybody is talking about this poll like it had merit, but it doesn’t. How in hell can 1,001 telephone surveys predict how more than 150-million people will vote? This is absurd. But there it is all over TV news and social media.
Biden is talking about this poll and so are the others kind of like rubbing it in President Trump’s face like little kids on the playground. Where the heck are the adults?
Headlines are reading “New Poll: Trump Can’t Win 2020.” Crazy huh?
Here’s a suggestion for conducting future polls unlike conducting cheap telephone surveys that get telephone numbers from unidentified sources designed to sway current political opinions about some candidates over others. These polling methods are suspect.
The sample needs to be much larger and just for discussion here let’s say 5,000 proven registered voters that would get paid for giving their honest opinions to questions up until the November 2020 election. If they change their minds along the way they say so in their answers. The breakdown would be as follows: 1,000 die-hard American flag-waving Red Hat Trump supporters, 1,000 plain old Republicans, 1,000 Independents, 1,000 run of the mill Democrats and 1,000 fire-breathin’ far-far-left snarling and hissing Democrats.
Makes some sense doesn’t it? What could be fairer? For a 10,000 voter poll just double the numbers and so on. One reason these polls get talked about is that mainstream media really don’t have much else to talk about that plays along with their anti-Trump narrative.
The Democrats want to believe these polls show something anything to get an edge on this president. They want to believe so much they can taste it. But it’s all Mulligan Stew.
