This Thursday July 16th the President of Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado, signed Law number 9875 to Transfer the Holidays (that fall on weekends) to Mondays with the purpose of promoting national tourism during the years 2020 through 2024.

The purpose of the bill is to help reactive the tourism sector, one of the most affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“At this time, it is of utmost importance to reactive the country’s economy, but more importantly to begin soon with the sectors that have been more affected financially by the pandemic. This temporary change to the Labor Code will allow the reactivation of national tourism so that this companies can little by little recover normality”, commented Geannina Dinarte, Minister of Work.

“By moving the holidays to Monday we give extra motivation for people to travel in the country with their social bubbles and respecting the sanitary protocols imposed, also, contributing to the financial recovery of our country”, commented Gustavo Segura, Minister of Tourism

The holidays that will be affected for the years 2020 and 2021 are:

Saturday, July 25, 2020 will be enjoyed on Monday, July 27, 2020
Saturday, August 15, 2020 will be enjoyed Monday, August 17, 2020
Tuesday, September 15, 2020 will be enjoyed Monday, September 14, 2020
Tuesday, December 1, 2020, will be moved to Monday, November 30, 2020.

Saturday, May 1, 2021, will be enjoyed Monday, May 3, 2021.
Sunday, July 25, 2021, will be moved to Monday, July 26, 2021.
Wednesday, September 15, 2021, will be enjoyed Monday, September 13, 2021.
Wednesday, December 1, 2021, will be moved to Monday, November 29, 2021.
