SAN JOSE – Global technology leaders Hewlett Packard (HP) and Intel have teamed up to bring the world the newest concept in personal mobile computing. The companies, which are two of Costa Rica’s largest employers, will be officially unveiling the HP Ultrabook at the Play store in Escazu on Wednesday, March 28th at 9:00 am.
The buzz surrounding the HP Ultrabooks began last year when Intel announced that it was working on an exciting new set of technologies that would allow laptop manufacturers to add many powerful features in an ultra-slim and lightweight package. Ultrabook is a trademark of Intel, and it is the inspiration behind the latest portable computing offerings by HP.
The HP Ultrabooks that have been in other markets thus far, the Folio 13 and the Envy 14 Spectre, have gathered a lot of attention and positive reviews from Silicon Valley insiders. The Folio 13, which has been specially designed with business users in mind, weighs in at just 1.5 kg and it is available in stylish brushed aluminum finish. The Envy 14 Spectre has enough features to make any laptop enthusiast envious, particularly due to its scratch resistant glass covering that is not limited to just the screen; the Envy is completely encased in glass.
Envy 14 Spectre and the Folio 13 are both super-slim and lightweight. When the lid of the Folio 13 is in the closed position, it measures just 18 mm in thickness. Due to the powerful features of the Envy 14 Spectre, it is larger and weighs a bit more than its business cousin. Both Ultrabooks feature HP’s signature Radiance backlit keyboards that not only allow typing in the dark, but also sense the approach of the user’s fingertips in order to light up that specific row of keys. This allows for a rich typing experience that conserves energy and is not intrusive in darkened settings.
The Intel processors powering the HP Ultrabooks allow super-fast booting and loading of applications as well as extended battery life. In battery life testing conducted by TechWorld in Australia, a Folio 13 was left on with Wi-Fi enabled, maximum screen brightness, and with a looped High Definition playing at full volume. The Folio 13’s battery was able to deliver 5 hours and 18 minutes of operation under those extreme conditions. The Envy 14 Spectre’s battery can last up to 9.5 hours under normal operating conditions.
HP Ultrabooks are heralding a new era in personal computing. While computer users were captivated by the advent of netbook, smartphone and tablet technologies, they often find those platforms lacking in certain features and power.
