Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah has destroyed two positions of the Islamic State (IS) militants in northeastern Lebanon, according to Hezbollah’s Al-Manar TV network.

According to Al-Manar, the positions were located in the regions of Baalbek and Ras al-Zaytun, and the attack has also killed or wounded jihadists inside the locations.

The offensive comes one day after Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah praised the alliance of his group with the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, stressing that combined struggle of militias in Syria has prevented the attacks and mass entry of jihadists into Lebanon.

Combatants of the Shiite group are fighting alongside the Syrian forces loyal to Assad on several fronts in Syria.

A Deadly Month in Syria

At least 4,823 people died in Syria in violence incidents in June, less than the May figure, when there were 4,927 deaths, according to data released on Friday by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, or SOHR.

Of those killed at least 1,208 were civilians, including 164 children and 266 women.

Most of the civilians, 680, were killed by aircraft bombing by the Syrian army and Russian air force against the provinces.

The rest were killed by the impact of rockets fired by the rebel factions, killed by Islamic State, or IS, or the Syrian Al Qaeda subsidiary, Nusra Front, by torture in government prisons, in attacks, by fire from the Turkish border guard or lack of food, among others.

Also, at least 1,151 Syrian fighters of insurgent organizations and the Syrian Democratic Forces, an Arab-Kurdish coalition, died last month; as well as two defectors from the regime.

986 foreign militants from IS, Nusra front and other radical groups were also killed.

In the government ranks 640 troops of the regular forces were killed, 656 Syrian pro-regime militia fighters, 29 members of the Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah and 110 Shiite fighters of other nationalities.

SOHR said there are 41 unidentified victims. EFE
