A man believed to be responsible for the murder, necrophilia and corpse desecration of two women at a love motel in Costa Rica was arrested just as he was planning to flee to Nicaragua on foot.

According to a recent news report filed by Gustavo Retana of daily tabloid Diario Extra, the suspect has been identified by the last names of Núñez Rubí. He checked in at a budget love motel located near the entrance of Chinatown in the capital city of Costa Rica. Two women aged 46 and 32 checked in with the suspect; they were found the next day under the bed, naked and strangled with.

A preliminary report issued by the Office of Judicial Investigations (Spanish initials: OIJ) indicates that the suspect, who is believed to have previously served in the Nicaraguan army, enticed the women with money and drugs to participate in a threesome. He may have drugged the women prior to strangling and suffocating them with a shower curtain.

The suspect checked out by himself around 6:00 a.m. on Friday. Housekeeping staff found the dead women, who were also from Nicaragua, around noon.

OIJ agents correctly believed that the suspect would attempt a furtive crossing into Nicaragua, and thus they notified law enforcement in various towns where illegal crossings are common. Residents of San Antonio, a remote community of the Los Chiles canton, reported seeing the suspect, who rode various buses to the northern region of Costa Rica. He negotiated a ride to the border with an illegal taxi driver, who ultimately notified officers from Fuerza Publica, the national police force of Costa Rica.

In the end, the suspect was arrested as the underground taxi arrived at the border. Forensic agents from the medical examiner section of OIJ are investigating the possibility of the suspect having engaged in necrophilia and desecrating the dead.
