An offshore fishing charter expedition in Costa Rica turned deadly for a French tourist who was on vacation with friends and relatives. According to a press communication by the Ministry of Public Security (Spanish initials: MSP), officers from the National Coast Guard Service identified the victim as Huberts Nicolle.

The tragic accident took place around 2:45 pm on Sunday, April 19^th. The MSP reports that the charter fishing vessel Golfito Sport Fishing Extreme was in the vicinity of Cape Matapalo, in the maritime sector known as Piedra Corcovado, located in the Osa Peninsula. The weekend forecast issued by the National Meteorological Institute called for strong surf conditions along the entire Pacific shore of Costa Rica, and the Osa Peninsula was not spared.

There were five people aboard the charter vessel Golfito Sport Fishing Extreme, and they were apparently recording digital video around Piedra Corcovado, a very photogenic sector of Costa Rica. The strong swells tested the seaworthiness of the motor vessel, which suddenly capsized. Another motor vessel from the same charter outfit was in the area, and its crew were the first responders, who notified the Coast Guard station in Golfito.

When the Coast Guard rescue boat arrived on scene, it was already too late for Monsieur Huberts Nicolle. His fellow French vacationers were identified as Ceorie LeMarie, Antane Nicolle and Lidie Nicolle; they were rushed ashore to a local hospital since they were injured during the maritime accident. Also rescued was the boat captain, a 29-year old Costa Rican man by the name of Esteban Cortes. The surviving French passengers were between the ages of 18 and 40.
