A 15-year-old foreign tourist dropped from a height of about 35 meters while he was on a canopy tour in Costa Rica’s northern Pacific coast town of Sámara.

The incident occurred in Santo Domingo de Sámara on Wednesday afternoon, reported the Nicoya Red Cross who attended the incident.

Once the young man was stabilized, his parents rented a private helicopter to transfer him to a medical center in San José, said the Red Cross.

Further details on the family’s nationality and other information on the accident and the youth’s health status is not currently available.

The only business offering canopy tours in the Sámara region is Wing-nuts, but the Red Cross did not indicate the location of the accident in their report.

In mid-September a New York businessman on vacation in Costa Rica for his birthday died in Sarapiquí while rappelling down from a restaurant at a jungle resort. The restaurant is reached via a zip-line, and customers exit by rappelling down from the restaurant’s platform perched in a tree.

And last July, two foreign tourists were injured when a canopy platform they were on collapsed in Jacó.
