According to The Wall Street Journal, Hollywood star Mel Gibson has once again decided to test the waters of the luxury real estate market. His impressive Hacienda Dorada in Nicoya, with its seven bedrooms, two guest homes and 500 acres of pristine land in Playa Barrigona is currently listed with Plantacion Properties of Escazu and Christie’s International Real Estate of Palm Beach.

Mel Gibson is currently asking for $29.8 million, a price that has come down from the $35 million listed in 2010 by ritzy realtor firm Engel & Volkers. It was once rumored that pop queen Lady Gaga was interested in Hacienda Dorada, but that was never confirmed.

Gibson acquired the property in 2007 to get away from tabloid journalists who swore to track him down after the actor got involved in a series of mishaps and altercations with them. Three years later Mr. Gibson decided to put the property on the market, ostensibly because the paparazzi had once again found a way to intrude upon his privacy by hiking a few kilometers on the sand from Playa Buena Vista or Playa Samara.

Aside from his extensive body of work in Hollywood blockbuster as actor, producer and director, Mel Gibson is also known to be a savvy real estate investor. He already owns a small residential empire in Malibu Beach, California, and he reportedly purchased Hacienda Dorada for a little over $25 million.

Mel Gibson has been busy with production of “How I Spent My Summer Vacation“, a new film in which he stars as a tough-guy getaway driver who lands in a dangerous prison in Mexico. Back in December, The Costa Rica Star mentioned Hacienda Dorada in an article that looked at the Haciendas of the Rich and Famous in our country. At the time the article was published, the reigning couple of Hollywood royalty -Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie- were on their way to Guanacaste to spend the holidays with their six children. That article also mentioned the Poro Poro resort owned by Andre Agassi and AOL’s co-founder Steve Case, the Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen palatial home in Santa Teresa, and the imposing Genesis Caspi Icon that will be developed in Puntarenas.
