The family of a 63-year old man from the United States, who passed away under mysterious circumstances in April, are asking that Federal Bureau of Investigation agents become involved in the case.

According to a news report filed by Luke Roberts of the Douglas Enterprise earlier this week, Mitch McCrimmon did not survive a coma that placed him in the hospital from April 14 to April 23. The cause of death was cited as complications from pneumonia and an H1N1 viral infection.

The Douglas Enterprise is a newspaper of record in Coffee County, in the southern state of Georgia. Douglas is the county seat of Coffee County, where Mr. McCrimmon worked as a police officer after a long career in law enforcement, which was largely spent in Largo, a municipality of Pinellas County in the Tampa Bay region of Florida.

Writing for the Douglas Enterprise, Mr. Roberts indicates that the dearly departed Mr. McCrimmon had gotten married in Costa Rica earlier this year, but the marriage did not last long. Less than a month after the wedding, Mr. McCrimmon filed for divorce and returned to the U.S.

Relatives of Mr. McCrimmon explained that a physical examination in early April showed that Mr. McCrimmon enjoyed excellent health for his age. He returned to Costa Rica and reportedly sat down to dinner with the woman who would have been his ex-wife, but who is now his widow.

Mr. McCrimmon apparently enjoyed a meal prepared by his widow and a friend. A day later, he called his daughter in Georgia to explain that he felt miserable. At an emergency room in Costa Rica, his vital signs included a temperature reading of 39.8 Celsius (103.7 Fahrenheit).

At the hospital, Mr. McCrimmon was given oral and intramuscular medications before being discharged; this is a common treatment for patients who suffer from swine flu but who are well-hydrated and in good health. Alas, Mr. McCrimmon would later turned comatose.

Mr. McCrimmon made friends with members of the law enforcement community wherever he went. To this effect, he was friends with Captain Melvin Sanchez, Director of Operations of the National Police Academy of Costa Rica, who will assist in the investigation. Members of the Largo Police Department have also expressed interest in determining what really happened to Mr. McCrimmon in Costa Rica.
