Visiting the Isla del Coco in Costa Rica is probably the dream of many, unfortunately just a few make this dream a reality since getting there is complicated and requires a 10-12 day expedition; this is why the University of Costa Rica and the National Museum joined efforts to bring people closer to this amazing island through an exhibit that was inaugurated on November 23 and will be available through August 19, 2018.

“Travesía por la Isla del Coco” (Journey through Coco’s Island) is the name of this exhibit that celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Island as a National Park and 20 since its declaration as World Heritage. Photos, audiovisual materials and information are presented in an innovative way, trying to recreate through the use of technology the sounds, the weather and even the movement of the different sea animals moving around the Island.
A mockup of the Isla del Coco was created and it includes the contour lines with the same characteristics they have in real life; video mapping completes the experience, with three high resolution projectors that show over the mockup the experience of a day at Isla del Coco.

A small and comfortable room with an 8m wide screen shows impressive images of the Island. “We wanted to show the wonderful, magical and spectacular that the Isla del Coco is as a living laboratory, but also, all the scientific data and knowledge that has been collected by specialists. My dream was that people that visit the exhibit realizes the wonders of this Island and the importance of having scientific research done to be able to really know everything about it”, explained Jorge Cortes from CIMAR,

Isla del Coco is 24 square kilometers and is the place where it rains most in the entire Pacific of America, it is known for its vast number of marine species with over 1,800.
