Celtic made official on Tuesday the signing of Costa Rican player Cristian Gamboa for the next three seasons.

Gamboa, 26, arrives at the Glasgow side, current leaders of the Scottish Premier League, from West Bromwich Albion.

“Celtic are delighted to announce the signing of Cristian Gamboa from English Premier League side West Bromwich Albion on a three-year deal,” said the Scottish club in a statement published on its website.

Gamboa was capped 47 times with Costa Rica, scoring two goals.

Similar to goalkeeper Keylor Navas, who plays for the Real Madrid of La Liga Española, Gamboa is joining a stellar club.

Celtic was founded in 1887. The club has won nearly 100 titles at the top of various Scottish leagues throughout history.

Celtic’s fans were estimated in 2003 as being around nine million worldwide, and there are in excess of 160 Celtic supporters clubs in over 20 countries.

In the history of this legendary club, record stadium attendances in excess of 140K are not uncommon. Celtic’s very own publication, The Celtic View, has been in print since 1965.

By joining Celtic, Gamboa will be one of a handful of players from Costa Rica who will participate in the prestigious UEFA Champions League.
