Costa Rica has had 143,685 confirmed cases of COVID-19 through last Friday, December 4, out of these, 95,789 people have recovered, and 577 patients remain hospitalized.

In total the country has registered 1,773 deaths related to COVID-19: 666 women and 1,107 men.

The Government announced this week that it has formalized the agreement with Pfizer and BioNTech for the purchase of 3 million dosages of vaccines against the virus. This number of vaccines will allow the immunization of close to a million and a half Costa Ricans, since each person requires two dosages of the shot.

President Carlos Alvarado explained the priority and commitment of the government is to protect the life and health of the population against the pandemic, therefore, guaranteeing access to the vaccines was of utmost importance.

The vaccines will be delivered throughout the four trimesters of 2021.

The country also has an agreement with AstraZeneca for a million dosages of the vaccine candidate against COVID-19 which is being developed along with Oxford University.
