The Risk Prevention and National Emergency Attention Commission (CNE) is making an investment of over $5.6 million across different counties of the Zona Sur (South Zone) for the rehabilitation and reinforcement of dikes, construction of bridges, intervention of rivers and the purchase of materials, tools and equipment for farmers.

In total there are 16 projects being developed, out of which half are already concluded, the counties that are being helped are Buenos Aires, Corredores, Golfito, Osa and Perez Zeledon; these as part of the emergency decrees of Hurricane Otto (N°40027-MP) and Tropical Storm Nate (N°40677-MP) which both wreaked havoc throughout Costa Rica.

The work is being carried out with the assistance and coordination of several institutions and the local governments.

The reinforcement of dikes and cleaning of several rivers in the region will help protect the families in the close by communities and represent a cost of close to $1.6 million.

The National Emergency Commission is also working in coordination with the Costa Rican Electric Institute and the Municipality of Coto Brus in the negotiation for the design and construction of a bridge over the Coto Brus River with an approximate investment of over $1 million.
More than $1.7 million will be destined to the purchase of materials, tools and equipment for farmers in the counties of Corredores, Golfito and Osa.

The intervention of the dam located in the riverbed of the Terraba River in 7 different spots will require an investment of close to $1.2 million with the purpose of protecting the nearby communities from the effects of future storms or hurricanes.
