Paquera, Puntarenas suffered damage to its dock last week when a ferry apparently crashed into it due to rough seas.
The Ministry of Transportation and Public Works (MOPT) said they are giving priority attention to the dock’s repairs given its importance for transportation of people and goods between Puntarenas and the Paquera/Tambor region.
The ferry company, Naviera Tambor, is providing machinery for the repair work, and the MOPT is providing planks and pilings and other materials to fix the pedestrian and vehicle ramp used to board and disembark the daily ferry which traverses the Gulf of Nicoya.
After the Puntarenas – Paquera ferry route was suspended late last Tuesday, August 15, service by Coonatramar to Naranjo beach, also on the southern Nicoya peninsula, has been increased. The Coonatramar ferry can be reached at 2661-1069.
Hernández also indicated an official investigation into the damages caused to the dock has been initiated.
