Bryan Solano Beckford a 19-year-old baseball player from Limón, Costa Rica is the new signup of the Houston Astros minor league.

Solano has a strong right arm; he is capable of reaching 92 miles in his pitches, and that caught the attention of scouts. Solano left to Nicaragua, encourage by his coach, when he was 17 to develop his skills and prepare, since baseball is big in the neighbor country.

The Costa Rican will go through a long process with the Astros, first he will be sent to Dominican Republic the first step in his goal to reach the major league, he needs to begin with Class A, then move to Double A and finish in Triple A to be considered in the professional level.

The last time the MLB turned its eyes to Costa Rican talent was back 8 years ago when the Cleveland Indians signed Alex Torres for the 2006-2009 season.

“Bryan is a right pitcher, very athletic, he has a good pitching repertoire, he throws a lot of strikes and keeps the ball low. He has good speed, throwing a straight that can reach 90 to 92 miles, with a good change of speed that ranges from 83-84 miles and a slider that goes from 79-80 with a good rotation towards the ground. For our manager Jeff Luhnow and our international director Oz Campo it is a great honor to have in our minor leagues a player from Costa Rica”, said Locadio Guevara, scout that promoted the signing of Solano.

Solano’s dream is to become the first Costa Rican to play in the MLB. “It was a difficult decision to leave to Nicaragua, but I wanted to help my family, in Nicaragua I improved my strength and different technical aspects; I know there’s a strong competition out there, but with hard work anything is possible”.

Solano started playing baseball in Cieneguita beach in Limon for fun, but little by little he began developing passion for the game. He played with national teams and also participated in National Games where he won a silver medal with the Limon baseball team in 2015.
