The Costa Rican Government and representatives of the labor unions concluded the eighth and final meeting of their “preliminary dialogue” that began at 2 p.m. on Friday and ended at 4:50 a.m. this Saturday, during the press conference following the meeting priest Edwin Aguiluz, acting as mediator, explained that a “preliminary text” had been reached which now the leaders of the labor unions will present to their bases for approval.

Part of the agreement includes not revealing any information of the proposal until the labor unions come to a final decision which they will announce this Sunday at 3 p.m.

“The meetings we have held are oriented to creating consensus in order to be able to establish a dialogue table. If the document is approved by the labor unions’ bases then it would be subscribed on Sunday and on Monday the dialogue would begin”, explained Aguiluz.
The strike will continue today and until the labor unions inform if they accept the proposal.

Both, the Minister of Labor and Gilberto Cascante representative of the Unions declined to make further statements, repeating that they will respect the agreement not to release any details of the proposal until tomorrow afternoon when the labor unions make a decision on it.

Yesterday, President Carlos Alvarado insisted on the importance of approving the plan in October.
