The Minister of Public Security mentioned yesterday that officers of the public police force had been working additional shifts and had been the target of insults, violence and more during these last few days of general labor strike, he made the comment after people criticized the actions of a group of officers during a road block in San Pedro that concluded with the arrest of four university students.

These statements where used by the labor union leaders to criticize the government and they invited the police officers to join them in their “peaceful” protest.
In response to this situation people have been showing their support to the police through social media and the company Florida Ice and Farm (FIFCO) donated 45 thousand units of food and beverages for the police officers.

In response to this the Ministry of Public Security expressed through a press release “The institution clarifies that it does have the resources in their storage and they are delivered constantly to the entire country to provide the police officers with everything necessary; however, the company FIFCO decided to donate the products in support for the work of the police force”.

The donation included water, energy drinks, fruit drinks, sodas, canned beans, powdered soup, milk among others.

“Today more than ever all companies must be united and thank and protect our police officers, who are facing the consequences for all of us. For this, Florida Beverages is supporting them with hydration and food, so they have the strength necessary to continue maintaining the social peace in Costa Rica. We need them to know we are with them and profoundly grateful for what they are doing for the country”, said Gisela Sánchez, director of Corporate Relations of FIFCO.

The donations arrived at the police stations of San Jose, Limon, Puntarenas and Guápiles.
