Costa Rica registered this Wednesday, April 28th, a new record on the number of new Covid-19 cases a total of 2,434.

With this new number, the total cases reach 245,601 out of which 40,184 are active. 351 people remain in intensive care while another 467 are hospitalized.
The health system has expressed its concern with the current rhythm of infection and the possibility of a collapse of public hospitals.

The National Medical Union (Undeca) sent a letter to President Carlos Alvarado requesting more restrictions are implemented: “It is time to face the current situation and as a nation try to lower the exponential increase of cases that have saturated the hospital beds in many cases leaving, not only Covid patients, but also patients with other pathologies without the possibility of proper treatment”, states the letter.

Costa Rica faces a critical situation where the concern for the economy weighs in heavily on decisions to establish stronger restrictions.

Vaccination moves at a slow rhythm with only senior citizens receiving the vaccine at this time.
