As Costa Rica heads towards the second round of its Presidential Elections 2018, the latest poll carried out by Opol Consultores show Evangelic candidate, Fabricio Alvarado, as the favorite with 57.3% of the support of those voters that will vote and have already picked their candidate.

Costa Rica will commence the second round of its presidential elections on Sunday, April 1st, since in the first round none of the 13 candidates reached the 40% required to be elected president of the country. Only the two candidates that received the largest number of votes, Fabricio Alvarado from the Restauración Nacional party (PRN) and Carlos Alvarado from the Citizens Action Party (PAC) are left battling for the presidency of Country.

In the total sample, Fabricio Alvarado received a 39.2% support while Carlos Alvarado recieved 29.2%, undecided voters represent 16.3% and those who will not vote represented 15.4%.

The survey was carried out between February 21 and 23 to a group of 2000 people in the Costa Rican territory, it has an error margin of +- 2.2%.

Candidate Fabricio Alvarado is an Evangelical/Christian singer, a pre-grad journalist and he was a deputy in the current Legislative Assembly. Alvarado who at the beginning of the presidential campaign had only a 3% support quickly gained a lot of supporters for his position opposing same-sex marriage.

Candidate Carlos Alvarado is a writer, journalist and politician, he holds two degrees, one in communication and a master’s degree in political science. Alvarado is the candidate for the party currently in office which has been strongly criticized for the recent Cementazo corruption scandal.
